BIOTECHNOLOGY
(Grades 9-10) Science Credit

This class will count as ½ credit
of required Physical Science for non-college-bound freshmen. This class deals
with physical science applications in agriculture and includes tools & methods
of scientific investigation, environmental systems technology, biotechnology,
plastics & composite technology, lasers, structural technology, satellite
communications, transportation technology, energy, tools & machines, video
production, audio & visual communications, hydraulics, pneumatics & mechanisms,
aerodynamics, rocketry & flight, electricity & electronics.
AG NATURAL
RESOURCES (Grades 9-10) Science Credit
Elective½ Credit
This class will count as ½
credit of required Physical Science for non-college-bound freshmen. This
laboratory class deals with the physical science applications in the
agricultural world of natural resources. Included is the study of soils &
conservation, soil fertility, water conservation, water pollution, water
management, wildlife management, tree/forestry management, air management, air
pollution, aquaculture, energy & mineral resources, wildlife habitats.
APPLIED
ANIMAL SCIENCE (Grades 10-12) Biology Credit
Elective½ Credit
This class will count as ½
credit of required Biology for non-college-bound sophomores. The class covers
biological factors in a typical farm animal environment. Included in this class
will be livestock selection, livestock nutrition, livestock genetics and
reproduction, husbandry practices, livestock wastes, livestock diseases and
pests.
APPLIED
PLANT SCIENCE (Grades 10-12) Biology Credit
Elective
½ Credit
This class will count as ½
credit of required Biology for non-college-bound sophomores. It covers
biological factors involved with plant life in the agricultural setting.
Included will be plant growth and development, biotechnology, plant/seed
selection, water resources, plant cultural practices, pest & diseases,
harvesting & storing, chemicals.
AGRICULTURAL PROCESSING TECHNOLOGY (Grades 9-12)
Elective½ Credit
This class deals with the
processing of food from the producer to the consumer. Included in this class is
Meats and meat by-products, the food industry, grain products processing, dairy
products processing, fish processing, egg processing, honey processing,
vegetable/fruit processing, FFA, careers and SAE.
INTRODUCTION TO
HORTICULTURE (Grades 9-12)Elective½
Credit
This class deals with the world
of horticulture plants, nursery landscaping, and greenhouse operations. Included
in this class are horticulture plants, soils and planting media, plant
propagation, seeds and cuttings, vegetable/fruit crop production, horticulture
plant environment, landscape design and maintenance, FFA, careers and SAE.
AGRICULTURAL
MACHINERY (Grades 10-12)
Elective ½ Credit
This class deals with the proper
set up, adjustment and maintenance of agricultural machinery. Included in this
class is safe work habits, mechanical calculations, agricultural machinery
service, machinery maintenance, machinery set up, calibration of machinery,
replacement costs for machinery, FFA, careers and SAE.

METAL FABRICATION TECHNOLOGY (Grades 10-12)
Elective½ Credit
This class deals with working
with metals, welding and building projects. Included in this class is safe work
habits, mechanical calculations, hand tool usage and care, metal fabrication,
oxy-acetylene welding and cutting, arc welding procedures, AC and DC welding,
Mig welding, plasma arc cutting, FFA, careers and SAE.
AGRICULTURAL POWER TECHNOLOGY (Grades
10-12) Elective½ Credit
This class deals with the small
gas engine and rebuilding a farm tractor. Included in this class is safe work
habits, mechanical calculations, small gas engine service, tractor maintenance,
servicing the tractor and rebuilding the tractor, FFA, careers and SAE.

Elective½ Credit
This class deals with basic
construction in agriculture. Included are safe work habits, calculations, hand
tools, power tools, materials, electricity, plumbing, concrete, soil & water
engineering, surveying, FFA, careers and SAE.

STRUCTURES TECHNOLOGY (Grades 9-12)
Elective ½ Credit
**Prerequisite =Components
This class builds on the skills
learned in the Components course. Additional units include project
construction, woodworking, painting & refinishing, wood structure construction,
FFA, Careers and SAE.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN AGRICULTURE (Grades 11-12)
Elective½ Credit
This class covers everything
from choosing a business to starting and running the business. Included in this
class will be Agribusiness operation plan, inventory management, finance
management, resource management, computers in agriculture, business records,
marketing programs, legal aspects of agribusiness, FFA, careers and SAE.
AGRICULTURAL
SALES AND MARKETING (Grades 11-12)
Elective½ Credit
This class deals with marketing
strategies involving students in a commodity marketing game with a group from
their class and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and will also involve an
individual project through the commodity challenge as well as Salesmanship
skills. Included in this class will be personal management skills, human
relations skills, verbal communications skills, written communications skills,
selling and sales skills, advertising and display of products, commodity
challenge, commodity marketing skills, understanding markets, hedging, futures
trading, put and call options, FFA, careers and SAE.
