Architecture and Construction

DRAFTING & DESIGN TECHNOLOGY (Grades 9-12) Elective½ Credit

Students study the communication of ideas through drawings, sketches, charts and graphs. Students develop skills and knowledge through freehand, instrument and computer drawing. Material covered includes lettering, sketching, and dimensioning; geometric construction, orthographic and pictorial drawings; working and architectural drawings.

 

WOODS I – TECHNOLOGY & PROCESSES (Grades 9-12)Elective½ Credit

This course will provide the student with a basic understanding of wood, its use in modern industry and society, and where it comes from. It will introduce the beginner to hand tools, as well as their uses and their relation to industry.

 

WOODS II –INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY (Grades 9-12) Elective ½Credit
**Prerequisite=Woods I

This course will require the student to use the knowledge and skills gained from the Woods I – Technology and Processes course. Students will become acquainted with power machines and safety. Students will also concentrate on the design and production of a project.

 

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY I (Grades 10-12) Elective ½ Credit

This class is a study of the designing, planning and constructing of a structure. Students develop an understanding of the use of construction technology through activities with tools, machines, materials, and processes involved in construction. Students will design and build scale models of different structures with the final class project being the actual construction of a structure.

 

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY II (Grades 10-12) Elective 1 Credit
**Prerequisite=Con.Tech I

This is a 2-hour block class. This is an advanced course in the field of construction with the emphasis being on pre-construction, construction, and post-construction processes from management through actual construction of some substantial structure. Students will spend the majority of class time learning and applying skills at the construction site.

 

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY III (Grades 10-12) Elective 1 Credit
**Prerequisite=Con.Tech II

This is a 2-hour block class. This is a continuation of the Construction Technology II course. Additional advanced construction concepts will be taught and skills will be developed through real application. Students will spend the majority of class time learning and applying skills at the construction site.
